ARTIST BIO

Jordan Allan Cuffee Jones was born into a military family on April 24th, 2002 where he was exposed to exploring the entire United States. He is a self-taught digital artist where his artwork vicariously reflects his personal life and focuses to represent the backgrounds of people he’s met throughout his childhood. After living in so many states within the US, he came to the conclusion that he can create a series of characters that represent the cultures around the country. His art journey is only beginning but he has had the opportunity to present his work during galleries in high school leading into college. He is the recipient of the George Caleb Bingham Art Academy Directors Award in 2019 and became a captain for the academy the following year. He had also won the Blue Springs Art League Scholarship in 2020, where he would be accepted into Norfolk State University the same year. Jordan may not be the most decorated artist coming out of high school, but he holds himself to a standard to where he can become better than he was the previous year. He is determined to aspire for greatness and nothing less.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My artwork originates from the experiences I had growing up as a military brat. For my entire childhood, we were forced to relocate which had gotten me accustomed to meeting almost every ethnic background in the US. To reflect on this, I’ve been drawing a series of characters that put the spotlight on every culture that America has to offer. I see my work as a dosage of proper representation of the United States since this country is a cultural melting pot. For too long I’ve been seeing characters that either don’t look like me or the people I meet on a daily basis growing up. I want to help not only my racial background, but to also provide a platform for people of all colors to stand on. Everyday I see so much promise and hopefulness in this country and it starts with the people who’ve built it with their blood, sweat and tears. The association with diversity has and always will be a main focus when I like to create a new piece. During my teenage years, I was a huge fan of Marvel, DC, anime, and a plethora of other sources relating to that media. As I begin my young art career, I always try to express that and try new things in my artwork. For my digital art process, I gather a lot of motivation and insight. This can be from every piece of media I can get my hands on that can range from food and architecture to TV shows and movies. I like to study the art style and anatomy of my favorite sequential/comic book artists and mesh it into my own style that I feel most comfortable with. This has ended up working for me for years now and I’ve even gained a photographic memory and can nearly imitate any art style just by looking at it.
